The Wycombe Environment Centre has been created to raise

awareness of environmental issues and encourage local communities in

High Wycombe to choose a more sustainable way of living.

During her year as High Wycombe Mayor, Frances Alexander saw that still not enough was being done to further regional green causes. So taking matters into her own hands, in 2001 plans were put in place to start a charity dedicated to educating both children and adults on the challenges ahead, and providing a hub where volunteers could organise projects for real local improvements.


Officially known as the Wycombe Environment Centre the charity spanned three locations accommodating dozens of volunteers and welcoming thousands of visitors. Exhibitions  were focused on issues such as transport, food waste or energy usage, highlighting how small personal change could benefit ourselves and those around us. Community outreach was also important with projects such as thermal imaging of local homes to improve insulation and reduce energy bills.
